The Gift of Solitude
Solitude is the time we spend alone. In our modern world, it can feel challenging to experience true solitude, because we’re rarely taught what it means to be in good solitude.
It isn’t emptiness, and it isn’t loneliness. It can feel lonely only when we don’t know what to do with ourselves, when we’ve learned to depend too much on others for our sense of connection.
As humans, we’re not meant to live in constant solitude, unless we feel a deep calling for it. We are social beings who need community and companionship, yet it’s equally important to feel at ease in our own company.
The beauty of solitude, when we become comfortable with it, is that it opens a doorway to our soul. We begin to listen more deeply, to connect with our heart, and to realise that we are never truly alone. Our guides and guardians are always with us.
Nature, too, is a vast and loving ally. When I wander alone through the forest, I never feel lonely. I admire the plants, breathe in the silence, and soak in the beauty that surrounds me.
Solitude can also be found in sacred spaces, like sitting quietly in a temple, or creating a small sanctuary at home where we can rest in the presence of the divine.
When we consciously choose these moments of solitude, we invite inner peace. We find answers to our questions, process our emotions, and return to a state of balance and harmony within ourselves.
